The launch of a new program is cause for celebration! We are excited to share that World Telehealth Initiative’s new program expands healthcare access in Guatemala.
In Guatemala, a severe shortage of medical specialists exists—just 3 per 100,000 people. To address this, World Telehealth Initiative's new program provides medical expertise via telehealth to Westmont Bethel Hospital in San Miguel Petapa. The site began with a compassionate couple in a poor community who opened their home to care for the sick. It evolved into a hospital led by their daughter and granddaughter who continue their legacy of service.
WTI will support patient care in critical areas like maternal and child healthcare, cancer prevention and detection, and chronic disease detection and management—while upskilling clinicians to ensure long-term impact.
“By educating our doctors to make more certain decisions according to international parameters, we prepare them to serve in our communities and bring better service.”
- Mery Hernandez, Medical Director at Westmont Bethel Hospital
