Fistula Repair Center, Lilongwe

Program focus: Surgical mentoring

In Lilongwe, Malawi, we partnered with Baylor College of Medicine to support obstetric fistula surgery for women suffering from this debilitating injury. There are roughly two million women in Africa requiring this surgery.

Through our program, we provided surgical mentoring to local surgeons in Malawi. Over time, the skills, expertise, and confidence of the on-site surgeons improved. They are now able to perform fistula repair surgeries independently.

Telehealth mentoring offers a sustainable mechanism to build the skills of local providers, ensuring that high-quality healthcare is built into the fabric of these communities for years to come.
