Global Health Education Initiative
Course Overview
The Global Health Education Initiative (GHEI) is a longitudinal partnership between the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program and St. Clare's Kaplong Mission Hospital in Kenya, facilitated and supported by World Telehealth Initiative (WTI). Built on the core principles of reciprocity, humility, and mutual learning, GHEI fosters opportunity for physicians, residents, and nurses from both institutions to learn from one another and share clinical knowledge, perspectives, and experiences.
During weekly virtual learning sessions, participants engage in case-based discussions, explore different approaches to healthcare delivery, and develop joint educational and quality improvement projects. These ongoing interactions build lasting professional relationships, strengthen clinical reasoning, and advance a sustainable and equitable model for global health education.
This page serves as a central resource hub for the GHEI curriculum and educational materials. The curriculum is organized into three sections corresponding to each “semester” of the program.
The calendar below outlines the dates, topics, and lead educator(s) for each weekly session. Click on a session topic to access the corresponding PDF of the slide-based lecture presentation. You are welcome to review the materials before each session and/or revisit them afterward as a reference.
Attendance will be recorded at each weekly lecture. Certificates of completion will be granted on a quarterly basis and reflect the individual lectures that each participant attended.
