Transforming global healthcare

World Telehealth Initiative aims to reduce global health inequities by improving access to quality care in vulnerable communities. Our network of 1,700 volunteer medical experts provides advanced training, clinical support, and collaboration opportunities for clinicians in low-resource hospitals and clinics. With sustainable telehealth support, these clinicians expand their skills and knowledge—enabling them to address local healthcare challenges, share their expertise with colleagues, and serve countless patients now and in the future.

Meet Aisha

Aisha, a 5-year-old girl in Nigeria, was in the local hospital for a month with a severe fever, rash, and constant seizures. After falling into a coma, she was urgently referred to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where doctors suspected a rare and life-threatening complication of measles: viral meningoencephalitis. Through World Telehealth Initiative, local pediatrician Dr. Ramatu connected in real-time with Dr. Garcia-Boyano, a specialist in Spain. They collaborated on Aisha’s treatment plan until she was able to return home to her family. Your support helps bring specialized healthcare to more children like Aisha.

Program Spotlight: Lifesaving heart screening for mothers in Haiti

Haiti has the highest maternal mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere, in part due to a life-threatening heart condition, peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), that affects new mothers. Through our partnership with Global Med Ed network, cardiologists from Yale School of Medicine use telehealth to train healthcare providers in Haiti to screen, diagnose and treat mothers with PPCM. Screening revealed that 25% had heart failure. Severe cases are associated with one-year mortality rates of over 30%.

Haitian providers can now diagnose and treat these cases independently to save women’s lives.
